  Ufych Sormeer was
founded in 1997 by
Olivier Bourez (guitar/vocal), Fabien Waquet,(guitar/keyboards) and Nicolas Sanson (bass), three natives from the northern lands of
the Kingdom of France. Permanent bad weather and desolate landscapes
logically led them onto the way of Metal music.
The band learned to play, like many others, by doing covers from
Metallica, Slayer , and so on… After that, we tried
different styles : we began by old-school heavy metal, then trash metal
,then death, and even black metal. At that time, we added Keyboards
to our music, obviously influenced by Bal-Sagoth's
"Starfire…", an album that really had a deep impact on us.
After that, Jérôme Pawlowsky joined us, first as a keyboard
player, then as a drummer, replacing our former one, who was
disappointed by the evolution of our music.
One year later, we
had composed enough songs to do an album, the future "Anthem To The
Glory Of The Great Octagon"
Six months after the recording, we accepted an offer from Ancestral
Craft Production. Even though we have no grudge against its boss, we are
disappointed by the lack of real promotion of our album (Does anyone
reading this biography remember having seen adverts for Ufych
Sormeer?). However, regrets are useless, and we were already working on
our next album.
But it was the beginning of a dark period for the band. First,
Jérôme left us, disturbed by the growing
complexity of our music, then a kind of feud beetween the remaining
members occured, slowing down the composition process. At last, we had
to face quite big personal problems. But we finally managed to triumph
over those twists of fate, and began in 2002 the recording of our new
album.
The new songs have a much more technical approach, this album is
somehow more ambitious, and we are looking forward to the way listeners
are going to react, as it will have nothing in common with the previous
one. In order to defend the new drums parts for "The Whimsical Have A
Dream" a guy called Julien Garniaux join us in december 2004. Yet, one year later, he suddenly throws up the sponge just before the signing with Holy Records.
In Order to concentrate on vocals, Olivier recruited two guitarists: Guillaume
Singer and Guy
Noël Hoareau (from Dead
Season). For Drums, Grégoire
Galichet (Hectic
Patterns) joined the band in november 2005.
The moment they arrived, Ufych Sormeer turned out in full force over again...

Sormeer fut

Moorcock etc…) les
menèrent au final sur la voix
d'un heavy metal atypique….
A
l’origine
le groupe apprit a jouer, comme beaucoup d’autres, en faisant
des reprises de Metallica,
Slayer , et autres… Après cela, et au fil des
années, ils
parcoururent de nombreux styles différents: du heavy au Death/Black metal. A ce point, ils
ajoutèrent des claviers à
leur musique, conférant au groupe une nouvelle
sonorité épique et symphonique. (Claviers
Influencés notamment par
le cultissime "Starfire…"
de Bal-Sagoth , un album qui a profondément
marqué le groupe).
Puis Jérôme
Pawlowski rejoint la formation lilloise, tout
d’abord en tant que second
claviériste, puis au final en tant que batteur, en
remplaçant le précédent, qui
fut désorienté par
l’évolution de leur musique.
Un an plus tard, le groupe
avait à son actif
suffisamment de titres pour enregistrer un album de métal
extrême, Le futur "Anthem
To The Glory Of The Great Octagon" qui s’attira
vite, dés sa
sortie, de nombreuses chroniques élogieuses dans des
magazines et fanzines
divers.
Six
mois après
l’enregistrement, Ils
acceptèrent une offre d’ Ancestral
Craft Production. Bien qu’ Ufych
Sormeer ne garde aucune dent contre ses dirigeants, les
membres du
groupe furent désappointés par le manque de
promotion offert par la maison de
disque. Cependant, les regrets demeurant inutiles, le groupe se remit
aussitôt à travailler pour leur nouvel album.
Malheureusement en parallèle
se fut le début d’une sombre période
pour le groupe et Jérôme,
démotivé, finit
par partir alors qu' Ancestral
Craft production finit par stopper
toutes activités. Pourtant grâce à la
détermination d’Olivier le groupe finit
par triompher de ces tours du destin et commença en 2004
l’enregistrement de «The
Whimsical Have A Dream».
Un quatre titres qualifié souvent
par la presse et les webzines spécialisés "d'OVNI
du heavy metal
progressif". Ufych Sormeer a de toute évidence
donné
avec cet opus un grand coup de pied aux clichés d'un
métal souvent trop
stéréotypé, et Il suffit de lire la
première plage de l'opus pour s'en rendre
instantanément compte.
Sur ce nouveau MCD Les titres
enregistrés, ont une approche plus technique et originale,
plus ambitieuse,
mais aussi plus Rock n' Roll "dégenté" à tel point que le groupe se
demande comment réagiront leurs fans, tant le nouvel opus
n’a rien à voir avec
son précédent. Pour défendre les
parties de batterie sur "The
Whimsical Have A Dream" un certain
Julien Garniaux rejoint le
groupe en décembre 2004. Pourtant à peine un an
après, il décide de quitter Ufych
Sormeer alors même que la formation signe chez Holy
Records.
Afin de se concentrer sur le chant,
Olivier recrute alors
deux guitaristes: Guillaume
Singer et Guy
Noël Hoareau (Dead
Season). Pour la batterie c'est Grégoire
Galichet (Hectic
Patterns) qui reprendra le flambeau.
A
ce jour Ufych
Sormeer est
de nouveau au complet, fermement décidé
a faire partager au plus grand nombre son étrange
musique…
